Strategic Communications

Challenge: How to raise visibility and support for critical, cross-cutting global program on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Approach:  Established a Gender Action communications and outreach program focused on documenting and disseminating best practices, and showcasing economic and social development programs that have achieved impressive results by empowering women and girls. Outreach effort was targeted at reaching USAID officials and program implementers, the development community at large, policy makers, donors and other influentials. Program components included a newsletter and mini-briefs, high-level events and forums, exhibits, a speaker’s bureau, research reports and technical assistance.

Change Ignited: Increased visibility, understanding and support for gender programs at the highest levels of the agency and helped inspire new gender programming and practices at the field implementation level.
